News overview

On Friday 27 April, Deloitte Private and Econopolis selected Vandersanden as one of the seven Best Managed Companies in Belgium. Vandersanden hereby joins CE+T, EASI, E.D.&A., LVD, Protime and Vanbreda Risk & Benefits on the list of the best privately-owned companies in Belgium, which succeed at combining a clear strategy with strong competences, corporate involvement and sustainable growth.

Sustainable innovation

The jury praised Vandersanden's distinctive approach to sustainability and the company's ability to translate this into innovation. The largest family-owned brick manufacturer in Europe is committed to the environment (CO2 reduction, green energy production, and ecological brick strips), society (CSR), and people (clients, suppliers and employees through initiatives like Great Place to Work).

CEO Jean-Pierre Wuytack, the third generation in the family-run business, was pleased with the recognition. 'It is proof that Vandersanden is doing a great job by successfully implementing the right values throughout the company. We want to set the bar high on all fronts. That means investing in people and resources, not in cut-backs or savings. While we're certainly a profitable company, profit is not our bottom line.'

Despite the stagnating industry, organic growth and acquisitions helped the family-run brick manufacturer from Spouwen-Bilzen develop into a group of nine production units in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, with 650 employees. 'Despite our growth, we're still one big family.'

The awards were preceded by a strict and independent selection process, facilitated by Deloitte Private (a consultant and supporter of large and small privately-owned companies). An independent jury consisting of Geert Noels (financial and economic advisor at Econopolis), Françoise Chombar (CEO of Melexis) and Rik Vera (CEO of Nexxworks) assessed the management capabilities and practices of the nominated companies. The 'Best Managed Company' label aims to become an international symbol of quality and excellence. The programme was developed twenty-five years ago in Canada and has since been rolled out in Chile, Ireland, Mexico, the Netherlands, and Italy. It will soon be launched in Germany, France, China, and Japan as well.
